The
“Girls” of Toulouse
It
would be impossible to approach the subject of “graffiti” without
mentioning the countless
“girls” who adorn the walls of the old Toulouse.
It
was in 1993 or 1994 that I first saw a drawing, done by paintbrush, signed
“Van”.
Numerous others, sometimes with the double signature of Van and
Kat, rapidly followed this first “Young Lady”.
With
the passing of years, while strolling through the streets of Toulouse I
was able to chart the development of the style of “Miss Van”, and
appreciate the great attention to detail, and the clever choice of
situation.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, “Miss Van” is
well rewarded, because under her tutelage many other “Young Ladies”
have appeared under many other signatures.
